Varsity Head Coach Kathy Miller has completed her 14th Season with the Engadine Eagles volleyball program. Mrs. Miller attended Northridge High School in Middlebury, Indiana, where she graduated in 1979.
During her time at Engadine Schools, she has coached her Varsity teams to winning seven MHSAA District titles in 2005, 2006, 2007, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011. She has also lead her teams to five Eastern Upper Peninsula Conference titles in 2006, 2007, 2007, 2008 and 2009. In 2008, Coach Miller's team won the Newberry Invitational and was Runner-up at the St. Ignace Invitational.
In 2008, Coach Miller received the All-Region Coach Certificate of Achievement award from the Michigan Interscholastic Volleyball Coaches Association for Region 2. In 2010, one of eight MIVCA scholarships given in the State of Michigan went to Coach Miller's setter. Her setter also received the Michigan Volleyball Coaches Individual Academic Award. In 2010, another player, who is currently playing for the Alma Scots, received Class D All State Honorable Mention. In 2011, Coach Miller's team received the Academic All-State Award.
The Varsity Volleyball team has received the Philanthropic Achievement Awards in 2008, 2009, and 2010 for their participation in the annual Dig Pink event which raises money for cancer awareness and research. Coach Miller began the Shag Dad concept which involves players' dads in the game of volleyball by shagging balls at matches. She has also conducted the annual Engadine Dads vs. Daughters volleyball match for over 10 years. Under the guidance of Coach Miller and JV Coach Garber, our JV and Varsity Volleyball teams participated in the 1st Athletes Give Back to the Community drive by cleaning golf carts and weeding flowers, to name a few jobs. In addition, four local student-athletes attended the MHSAA Sportsmanship Summit in Marquette with Mrs. Miller, the first time ever it was hosted in the UP.
Coach Miller and her husband, Pastor Tim Miller, have raised three daughters: Jessica '03, Andrea '05 and Kayla '10, who is currently a student at Cornerstone University in Grand Rapids, MI.
